Brian Thornton is looking for Welte-Mignon rolls. As AMICA is the
clearing house for "paper roll or book operated" musical instruments,
it would make sense to join AMICA and know that there are several
independent producers of high quality Welte music rolls, including
myself, Bennet Leedy, Rob DeLand, Paul Johnson and others. Check it out.
My current reissues met with overwhelming success and have had to be
reordered twice. You may still contact me for the current list.
As far as converting the Welte-Mignon to Ampico, I think you already
said it in your letter, there are _so many_ Ampicos, why destroy a
perfectly good and original instrument to make it into something that
will ultimately make it worthless? If a person is that concerned about
the roll situation, then buy an Ampico (the above group also recut
those, too.) as they outsold the other instruments.
Just restore it as it is, you won't be sorry. Anyway, the pursuit (for
the rolls) is one of the best parts of this hobby. The pursuit, it's a
"guy thing". You'll be glad you did.
