A very short note. An Edison cylinder player, home model E, was
auctioned off today at one of our country auctions. It was in deplorable
condition. I did not even bid on it when the drive belt crumbled in my
hand and reproducer head fell out. The auctioneer did not even know how
to put on the cover of the machine. Talk about dog and pony shows.
Anyways, it went at this price of $440.00 without any Edison Amberola
Blue cylinders. When I arrived at this auction, one of our heat waves
had started and as some of the items for auction from an estate were
placed out on tables (of course IN the sun). There should have been
about 100 Edison Blue Amberolas with the device, but honest, there were
100 *melted* Amberolas, which were removed from the bidding. Summer
auctions here in upstate New York are better than TV.
I must say , however, that in driving back from the auction, with NO
purchase, that I stopped in one of our little villages in an antique
store, and in one corner of it was a rather empty booth with a sign
labeling as "Free -- Anything in this booth!" It was free, ...and you
may not believe this, but I got a floor model Atwater-Kent radio (working
condition), a QRS music roll cabinet and a custom sheet music
cabinet-just for being there.
Summary: NY Upstate Price: Edison Home Model E, bad condition, $400.
Edison Blue Amberola Cylinders (100) $0.00, removed due to melting.
