Harry "The Hipster" Gibson
By Doug Mauldin

Jim Edwards asked about Harry Gibson. Wasn't he the cat who sang and
played "Who Put the Benzedrine in Mrs. Murphy's Ovaltine"? This
recording has been played on the Dr. Demento radio program in recent
years. I think it was inspired by "Who Threw the Overalls in Mrs.
Murphy's Chowder," which is preserved for posterity in QRS roll number
9127 and possibly in other media (e.g. a Bing Crosby 78, perhaps).

The "Benzedrine" song, originally published on 78 in the 1930s, was
included in a Dr. Demento compilation released on vinyl some 20 years
ago but has not been published in a piano roll, AFAIK ( = hip 'net
abbreviation for "as far as I know.")
