Value vs. Investment vs. Resale Price
By Robin Pratt
An analogy I often use with customers (and "collectors" = i.e
pickers/aquisitors) is: Yes you may have to put $3500.-$10,000. into
that pedal player, but in 20 years it will still be worth something
unlike that $38,000. Lincoln in your driveway that in 5 years will be
worth NOTHING!
If you are only going to keep it for a few years as a novelty and then
try to make the "big money" by selling it, then my advice is to get out
of the hobby and allow people who really care about these musical
instruments to have them. This does not offend the customer but allows
them to make an objective decision about the future of the piano. Many
then realize where they are with the piano and almost always go for the
first class (not garden hose patch-up) restoration. I have never had
anyone regret the decision...ever. However some don't do either and
ultimately (and fortunately for others) dispose of the instrument.
After all, weren't these instruments designed for "entertainment? I
always thought so.
