Hello all from the UK again, There are two player pianos for sale in the
UK which although I am not interested in buying, I thought the group may
like to hear about.
The first is a Rogers upright made in London about 1925 and fitted with
the American made Welte Licensee player. I would guess that there were
not too many made at the time as I have only seen three Rogers and Two
Waddington (Yorkshire made) pianos so fitted. Perhaps it was expensive
to bring the actions over or perhaps the Ampicos were cheaper as they are
much more common.
The second is a 1910 "Kastonome" player with their patented system of
note accentuating which could pick out one note of a group (chord) played
simultaneously and accentuate that note only. This was achieved by what
could best be described as a 'bar code reader' on the edges of the
tracker bar which played either 65 or 88 note rolls. I have only seen one
other for sale in 25 years and that also was unrestored so I don't know if
the system was effective or not.
Any comments please, Brian Chesters

[ I performed upon at least two Rogers vertical pianos and I thought
[ they were rather nice. Actually, I was pleasantly surprised that
[ good verticals *do* exist in Great Britain! (The old Broadwood
[ was a pleasure to play, of course.) -- Robbie
