Jody and Robbie -- I found your address in "The Old Piano Roll News", the
newsletter of the Texas Chapter of AMICA.
My 1925 Smith & Nixon belonged to my great uncle. I purchased it about
three years ago when he had to go to a nursing home. I've redone the
case and had the piano worked on. The motor was reworked this past year.
All of the bellows had been redone in the '60's, but the player mechanism
still has problems, and I'm sure the bellows need lots of work.
Unfortunately, with two sons in college, $ is not flowing freely.
Hopefully in three years, I will be able to have additional work done on
my baby.
My rolls date back to a 1909 silent movie roll. I have about 175 rolls,
50 of which I have purchased either new or used since buying the piano.
I've been to several meetings locally and learned a few things about
player pianos. I certainly realize that my piano may not be very special
to collectors, but I'm proud of it.
Sincerely,
Sandra L. Hurley

[ Welcome to MMD, Sandra. I bet that you would enjoy repairing the
[ player yourself, or at least some of the components. It's fun and
[ quite satisfying (usually!). Get acquainted with the good player
[ techs in your region -- the AMICA folks can advise you. And you'll
[ learn a lot reading the Digest, too! Happy pumping. :) -- Robbie
