Robbie on Tour in England
By Jeffrey Borinsky

All MMDers probably know that Robbie is currently touring England as
pianist with the South Frisco Jazz Band. Their itinerary is reminiscent
of GK Chesterton ...the night we went to Birmingham by way of Beachy
Head.

I went to their first gig with my wife and a friend. The host was Mrs
Barnett who owns the manor house in the tiny village of Towersey, about
10 miles from Oxford. About 150 of us packed into the beautiful and
ancient barn. Through the windows behind the band we could watch the
ducks on the pond.

The band roared into action with lots of old Dixieland favourites
leaving no doubt that we were hearing a really top class outfit. After
the first set there was a good buffet dinner and the bar was excellently
run by the landlord of the local pub. Then lots more music including
Robbie doing a solo Black and White Rag. Mrs Barnett, known as Puss to
her friends, came to the stand and demonstrated how to sing Dixie. That
cat can sure growl. Brilliant. I think the band would like to take her
on tour. We finally and unwillingly let the band go after midnight.

If you are in Liverpool, Keswick, Bude or Norwich on the right dates
then make sure you get a ticket. I think Dan Wilson has the full set of
dates and venues. Could he post them to the digest please.
