Regarding the questions about Jacob Doll & Sons Players. I don't have
alot of information, but do have a Doll player I rebuilt a number of
years ago (it's actually the piano that made me retire up my rebuilding
zest, but that's a different story).
The piano is very nice quality with strong bass. The hammer action has
brass flanges which are a nuisance to rebuilders, but otherwise a very
well built instrument.
The player action is a Jacob Doll design, with a transposing tracker bar,
sustain and sustenuto controlled buttons on the key slip. It was tubed
for an auto rewind feature, but does not have one installed. The early
players had a special stack with inverted pneumatics (facing forward)
but they later players had a standard stack. The tracker bar has an
unusual "finger" which rides along the roll which activates the tracker
mechanism.
The case on my piano is mahogany, and is a nice looking wood.
I could forward Jpegs or Gifs to the poster if necessary, including a
close up of the fall board decal.
