In Digest 97.05.01 I made a request to the readership of the MMD to
support the Digest financially.  So far we have received 11 pieces of
e-mail commenting on the request.  In Digest 97.05.02 I said I'd hold
back these incoming comments for a few days so people could comment
without being influenced by other subscriber's comments.  I'm going to
run all the comments received on Sunday night, so if you want to comment
without the influence of having read other's comments, do it now!

With that said, I want to say that we have received 16 checks so far.
I find this very encouraging, since some people obviously got out their
checkbooks the same day they received the Digest with the request in it.

Earlier in tonight's Digest, Vince asked that I remind him how to provide
support.  I think I'm going to incorporate that information into the
boilerplate at the bottom of the Digest soon.  Until then, here's the

I'd like to remind people that for now this is voluntary, with no
specified amount required, and that it is not a "charitable
contribution" for tax purposes.

Non-US subscribers who wish to support the MMD financially should
wait for a few weeks.  I have applied for a "merchant account" for
accepting VISA and MasterCard as an avenue for non US subscribers
to support the MMD without the hassle of currency exchange and/or
having to use registered mail.  I will make an announcement after
my bank gets the account set up.  Please remember that e-mail is
not secure.  All credit card transactions must be done via "paper-mail".
