What a joy it has been to be able to communicate amongst such a group of
mechanical music enthusiasts. I appreciate the help I have gotten in the
past, and hope to contribute in some way in the future.
I have received advice on MIDI components for re-recording rolls, however
I would like even more input as to the types of optic sensors which might
be used. My project could be used for as many as 10 different types of
rolls, and if it would be possible to machine a wooden trackerbar into
which optics could be mounted, it would save having to try to pull them
out of other machines for the duration of recording.
As for the destruction of players, here in northern Michigan we seem very
lucky. There was a time in which a couple of "tuners" managed to destroy
many instruments. However this has changed. Several of the local tuners
are now working with players, and none of them will discourage repairs.
In fact the president of the local Piano Technicians Guild want to learn
even more about working on these machines. If only this trend were nation
wide.
I also remember a trip I made through Pennsylvania about ten years ago,
and it seemed that in the southeast quarter of the state, every little
town seemed to have one or more "meniacle monstrosities." One might hope
that the guilty party is either running out of material, or will have
one of his "build up blunders" eat him alive SOON.
Again, thanks to those who have helped with midi info, and all who helped
us find Wurlitzer APP and Losche rolls!
