Stark Piano and Modern Replacement Stacks
By Andy Taylor

My original comment was WHY WOULD ANYONE RENOVE PLAYER ACTIONS FORM
RESTOREABLE INSTURMENTS... restorable key word!!! If the piano is junk
there's not much hope, but save what you can. Used player parts are
worth their weight in gold!!!!!

The more I am hearing about these coin piano kits the more I dread
getting mine... This fellow that builds these things (I wont name
names ) yet but this fellow seems to getting a bad name for himself.

There is a need for a replacement stack that can be made to fit any scale
(Craig B is the expert on building actions so he may have some ideas).
I thought they could be made like some wind motors... fastened together
with fiber tubing and made from wood, not plastic!!

The idea of nails in the stickers will work but there is no lost motion
adjustment or stop rail... that will never do. The pneumatic will
collapse all the way and will wear our quickly'

Another way to make a "universal" player action would be like the old
Price and Steeple stack with the vavle board seperate connecting the
pneumatics with tubing.

The pushrods could be made from replacement adjustable piano stickers
turned upside down with a capstan screw in the end of it for adjustment.
The whole action could sit in the piano on top of the key cheeks like
some of the old Steger and Sons pianos. Screws could be used here to
adjust the action the the whippens

The stack should be small enough (two tier) to install in a non player,
but the fallboard cover will have to be cut to make room. The only down
side if that is you can't close the lid.

Some old Cable players are no deeper that a regular upright. The spool
box is mounted up over the piano action. There's no reason that can't
be used in straight pianos as well.

The point im driving at is a replacement stacks should be quality built.
People who spend money on replacements usually care a great deal about
the piano.

If you sell substandard parts your buyers will quickly find it out.
I haven't got my kit yet but im afraid I've gotten stung... I traded
a '27 Chevy truck that ran for this... But a trade is a trade and
I won't go back on it... My e-mail has never got one good report about
this kit. I'll probably have to modify it pretty much to do what I want
it to do.

But I will let all of you know.
