I agree with the postings regarding the crime of removing player
actions from classic pianos. As an installer for PianoDisc, I
have turned down three installation jobs for individuals who wanted
to convert their pneumatic players to the new MIDI technology.
Unfortunately the new action is basically placed where the pneumatic
stack is located.
In all three cases, money was not the issue. What I have found is that
sometimes people place sentiment over reason. "This piano has been in
the family for xx years." In two of the cases, I was able to convince the
individuals to keep their old player for sentimental reasons, and buy an
additional non-player piano to convert to MIDI. I think I lost the one case
and they went to someone else for the MIDI install.
There are plenty of fine non-player pianos out there to convert to the
new technology. Leave the classic ones alone!!!
