Removing Player Actions!!!??
By Andy Taylor

wow!!! Looks like I've started a "landslide". I agree with all of the
comments about removing player actions. Please don't think I am against
piano tuners... I tune them too!!! It was once said that over two million
players were built... now many years later many are destroyed accident,
on purpose, fell off the truck etc! Floods, tornados or the fate of my
eloved Foster piano... fire.

All I was driving at is if the generation that follows us cares to get
involved in rebuilding... the chances are players will become rare 20 or
30years later. That, coupled with players being gutted compounds the problem.
The average person can't afford a restored "super Duo-Art Amipco Welte Seeburg
1000 pound piano" and these old pedal pumpers really do fill a need.

I guess im a little odd. I do play the piano, have recorded rolls and am no
expert by far. Bruce is right, the musical snobs are a drag... but music is
not just for the elite. I can sit down at my player and play it by hand or
have the "masters" play my piano before my very eyes... I have learned alot
from them!!! I have seen some pianists get upset and leave the room when
someone may play a little but better instead of watching and learning.
Maybe that is the real reason some people hate players some rolls remind
us we still have alot to learn!!!

I have some files of John Roache and others I run these files forward,
back and learn all I can I hope they don't mind me studying their works.

Thanks for all the advise on the Ragtime kit from every one. I am going to
study the situation before putting anything in. These kits and QRS Pianomation
have their place (my piano already fell victim to the player gutter) so
maybe I'll be forgiven for putting it in there.

Maybe there is a way for all of us to list our spare player actions. There
are any number of empty players around. Anyone could search a database and find
a action that can be adapted to their piano. Then we could slowly start to
reverse the damage made by careless people.

Could Mr D.L. Bullock please contact me?? I am close to St. Louis and
would be happy to take some of the players off his hands. I can't seem
to mail Compuserve for some reason.

     best regards
     Andy
