...or why I loath the DiskClavier and R.A.M. Co.

I almost weep when I think that in the past 2 years I've had 4 instances
where local piano techs have offered me the works of Ampico and Duo-art
grands that were gutted for the installation of the DiskClavier system. Of
course I couldn't afford to buy these units because for many years
rebuilding reproducing actions for techs and dealers was the mainstay of my
business, and that dropped to nill. Coin Piano and Band Organ restorations
have since come to my rescue, but I regret that I could not get these units
and put them aside until the time when people come to there senses...

[ Editor's Note:
[
[ To the best of my knowledge the Disclavier system is only available
[ as a Yamaha factory installed option on certain new Yamaha pianos.
[ It is not avallable as an aftermarket system in the US. You probably
[ are thinking of the PianoDisc system from PianoDisc/MSR.
[
[ Other aftermarket systems include QRS/Pianomation and apparently a
[ system from Ragtime Automated Music. There are still people
[ (re)installing Pianocorder systems, using spare and recycled parts.
[
[ I had the experience myself in Ramona, CA of trying to save a piano
[ with an Ampico A system from being "improved" with a QRS system.
[ I don't have anything against the QRS system, but I thought gutting
[ the piano was inappropriate. Those guts are probably available for
[ sale. Contact Grayson Piano, Ramona, CA if interested.
