Otto Higel Labels
By Jim Heyworth

Hi Colin,

Regarding your MMD posting:

> have boxes or even roll tabs ....

I have a couple of small and one large roll, and if you wish I can scan the
labels.

Most are a bit grungy, but since one of the small rolls has a good one
pasted onto the leader, it is in good shape.

The leaders are pretty standard, being the box label pasted just above the
tab and just above that is, stenciled in green, the text "MADE IN CANADA"
and a box with the usual guff "This roll is guaranteed... The adjustable
tracking flange..." etc.

The small boxes are a very dark, almost black, forest green. One of them
has an embossed linear crinkly finish and the other embossed lions, not
quite rampant. These were both originally sold in Vancouver by Mason &
Risch Ltd. at 738 Granville St. (It is of interest to note that this is a
heritage building and just last month the last of the manually-operated
passenger elevators in Vancouver there was converted to automatic after the
operator of some 35 years retired. It also still has some very interesting
art nouveau-style office suites.)

The large roll, originally sold in Montreal by the Mulhollin Piano Co. 786
St. Catherine St. West, has a box covered simply in black paper.

If you wish I can scan the labels and leader, but don't want to irritate
your ISP by sending too large a file and you having to spend 10 minutes
downloading it. Of course if you aren't particularly interested in fine
definition I can zip a low-res version for you as a sampler.

Let me know if this will be of any help.

BTW, just in case there is a match:

Large roll: 09667 Fantasia on Harry Lauder's Songs (Price $1.25)

Small rolls: 04683 Sonata, Op. 26, Ab Beethoven
07134 Hungarian Dance No. 6 Brahms

All three are Solodant and the two classical ones "Tempoaid."
