Cable Solo Carola Player
By Rod Cornelius
Michael Waters asked about these players. He is asking just how many of
these there are about a question I have always wanted to ask myself. So I
would also like to hear from others with them. I have one in complete
and working condition. It was restored about 15 years ago but not that
well. some of the pneumatics that position the notes have not been
covered well and leak. Also they covered the back of the tracker bar
with clear silcone to prevent some obvious leaks and stuck every thing
up including the movement of the hand tracking on the tracker bar. I
have not got around to sorting all this out. But it does go sort
of.There is a certain amount of expression as the hammers are set either
closer or further away from the strings before the note is struck. The
extended holes above the normal ones on the tracker bar allow this to
happen. There is one pneumatic for every two hammers. I have the simple
manufactures instructions and a few other bits of paper on the player
somewhere.
I think they are quite hard to find. I knew of one in Australia that was
ment to be complete and one with the player mechanism removed.
As for the rolls they do turn up. I have about 20 and there was a whole
pile for sale in a catalogue a few years back.
One day I will get it going correctly, but maybe someone else has one in
good condition and so like Michael I would like to hear from them.
The only other reference I have to them is in the Encyclopedia page
339-40.
