It's not that I dislike color -- I dislike color monitors !
I like my 14-inch monochrome "portrait" monitor for editing: it's bright,
it's legible across the room, and it's not tiring when I'm sitting two feet
away. And it displays *73 lines* of 9-point monospace text very clearly !
Color monitors with this clarity are very expensive.
With High Definition TV (HDTV) coming soon, the cost of very-high-quality
color monitors for computers is sure to decrease. Someday maybe I'll have
a color "tube" that is as pleasant to view as this old black & white screen
! (I do use the SVGA 15-inch color monitor with the Web Browser, but the
clarity is very inferior.)

[ For editing text and doing simple graphics, the 19" Monochrome
[ monitor on my old Sun workstation was without question my
[ favorite monitor before it caught fire (seriously). Without a
[ shadow mask or aperture grille its possible to get terrific focus
[ and high contrast. However now that there's so much material
[ for viewing in color, its mandatory to have a color monitor in the
[ arsenal of tools. I trust there's a better color monitor in
[ your future ;-)
