Hi all, I have just returned from the auction with my box.
Its a Key wind Nicole with 23 X 7 cm cylinder. Comb is perfect, dampers
are awful (poss. non existent) matching case and movement numbers, Serial
24033 Gamme # 738. I called K. Harding (Music box restorations in the UK)
who tells me the three overtures are Robt. le Diable, Freishutz and Barber
of Seville. (Excuse spelling.) It's never been messed with and it sounds
full of promise. I have asked K. H. to do the dampers and regulate it for
me. I think it will be worth doing that and It will sound a different box
then. This will be in a few weeks time though. I am very excited about
this one as I have never had a three overture box before, only two four
overtures.
The other box with the three mandarins playing six bells on a 17 inch
cylinder was not in very good condition and it went for about =L=2200 with
buyers premium etc. So I didn't buy that one. I didn't like the mandolin
box either. Once I had listened to the three overtures, nothing else took
my fancy.
