Lake Michigan has yielded maritime archaeological treasures that, due to
the extremely cold temperatures and the fact it is fresh water, have been
remarkably well-preserved. Maybe we should form a rescue salvage dive
team to not only rescue these deep-sixed depression darlings, but
also to explore the murky waters around the loading docks for missing
Operator's Co. products (and maybe the missing Operators themselves!).
I can just see it -- a Cousteauesque romp through the darkened waters
of Chicago's mysterious Lake Michigan for sunken automatic musical
instruments!
(My apologies to Geraldo Rivera for "scooping" him on this one!) ...
Didn't a Dienst orchestrion go down with the Titanic, or was it the
Lusitania?
