Will Wild inquired about whether there were any mechanical musical
machines left at Walt Disney World. As we have reported to MMD earlier,
our company, Mechantiques, purchased 21 mechanical music machines from
Walt Disney World in February of this year. Of the 21, we still have 8,
five of which will be auctioned off in White Plains by the James Julia
auction company on May 2nd (Coinola "Beale Street Special" build up,
Wurlitzer "Sarah Jane" style 148 Band Organ, "Clancy O'Toole" Calliope,
Caliola, "Honky Tonk" Wurlitzer Style I).
The other machines which we still have in inventory are a Wurlitzer Style
C Photoplayer, North Tonawanda Sextrola (only one known), and a Seeburg H
(in our opinion, probably the best one extant). We have illustrated a
number of these machines on our web page (www.mechantiques.com) and have
left them there for viewing even though many of the machines are sold.
Walt Disney World retained five machines, the best of which was "Big
Bertha", a fairly large Limonaire organ. They also retained a Wurlitzer
Style C and a couple of cabinet pianos and as I recall one other keyboard
piano. The only one that I know is still on location is Big Bertha, which
is in a second story alcove of one of the restaurants there.
