The MMD I read with great interest. Wonderful! My name is Andy Taylor
(really, it is, honest!). We just got this computer. So far I somehow
managed to operate it. Just joined the MMD & it is the best (after I
figured how to download it!).
My love for player pianos goes back almost as far as I can remember. My
parents had a old Foster & Co. player that wouldn't work. But I learned
to play the piano. The player action never worked after I got done with
it (I was 8 years old at the time), but to this day I still have part of
the player action in several parts. The piano was destroyed by fire in
1975; wish I had another one.
Indirectly, that piano started a hobby of restoration and roll arranging
that is very rewarding. Its nice to take something in bad shape and bring
it back to life. We always restore the piano first. If it don't sound
good, I won't play it! I also tune them part-time. I can recall several
arguments with other piano tuners in my area (they yank the player
action out and throw it away). At least I have them to the point that
they will allow me to pick up the player actions they throw out.
Anyone need a two-tier Aeolian, or a three-tier Baldwin? We also build
suction boxes and will soon have a limited number of 88-note rolls under
the name TEMPOLA. Judging the amount of pianos around here, I'd say I've
got the "player bug bad!" We just put a record strip in one of our
pianos. After several modifications, I can now copy rolls on Midi as
well as arrange from the keyboard. Feel free to contact me if I can help
anyone in any way.
Best regards,
Andy Taylor

[ Welcome aboard, Andy. I'd like to hear more about the modifications
