Introduction
By Terry Baer
Jody, I thought I would drop you a note as a means of introducing myself to the group. I have been enjoying MMD for several months now and have had good intentions, but you know how that goes.
I am first and foremost a phonograph collector, concentrating on the upper end Edison cylinder players. I have managed to find all of the Triumphs, Model "A" through "G" and a couple of Spring Motors. Besides collecting them, I have done some research in the area that I hope to publish soon. I am building a database of Triumph, Alva, Idelia, Class "M" serial numbers and would love to hear from subscribers as to what they have and would be glad to answer any question that I can as well.
In Mechanical Music, I have a Steinway "AR" that is currently under pneumatic restoration. My wife enjoys playing it in the meantime. I don't know a lot about reproducing pianos but feel that these are great, very underrated pianos.
On the personal side, I am married and have two sons, age four and six. I work as a research engineer for a major brewer here in the St. Louis area. I enjoy all history of technology subjects and collect steam engines and early electric motors and light bulbs as well the above. I would love to hear from any MMD subscribers with parallel interests.
