FS: Duo-Art Vorsetzer
By Tom Steuer
I recently purchased a unique Vorsetzer that plays Duo-Art, Welte (Red label _and_ Welte Licensee), and Ampico rolls.
As a result, I am now offering my Duo-Art Vorsetzer for sale. I use it all the time as a push-up to my Yamaha Disklavier grand piano, and transfer Duo-Art and 88-note rolls to Disklavier format discs.
The Vorsetzer is in excellent condition. Everything plays and expresses beautifully. It was custom built for Irving Tushinsky by Mel Shores of Los Angeles in 1965 and is one of two such instruments. The other iden- tical unit was built by Shores for Irving's brother Joe Tushinsky and I understand it is now in Japan. To the best of my knowledge, Aeolian never built a Duo-Art Vorsetzer, so if this is of interest to you, it is a very rare instrument. I am offering it for $7,000.
It is finished in polished ebony and has a very pleasant, acceptable design in a room. When not pushed up to the piano, it looks like a cabinet with dimensions roughly the size of a spinet piano. There is a small, fairly quiet vacuum motor in it, but I will also make available a remote vacuum pump to be used in another room or in a basement, so that there is no noise whatever.
I can be reached on the Internet at tsteuer@jovanet.com or by phone (in Los Angeles) at (310) 273-1024. Leave a message if I am not in and I will return calls.
This will be a very exciting acquisition for someone!
