Deansboro Museum and Violano Tuning Chart
By Ed Gloeggler
Last month I had the pleasure of corresponding with Mr. Sanders, the long-time operator of the Mechanical Music Museum in Deansboro, New York. I thought it would be a great outing for the kids.
Unfortunately, the museum is now closed, tied up in litigation between Mr. Sanders and the 'new' owners. Apparently there was some conflict regarding the operation and sale of instruments. Sanders said "it would be a waste of time to come by now..." The ownership of the remaining collection is also tied up in this litigation.
To assist in the tuning of the Violano-Virtuoso's piano, a strip of cardboard printed with the notes and temperament order was supplied. Because the piano is symmetrical and keyboardless, the notes are scrambled, alternating from right to left with the bass in the middle and treble on the ends.
The "Service Manual" printed by Vestal Press and now in stock by The Player Piano Company in Kansas has that chart reprinted on the last page. It can be copied and glued together or mounted on a cardboard strip.
Happy tuning.
