Organettes
By Ed Schmidt
Brian,
I assume you are referring to the 25 note 13 3/4" wide paper Cabinetto. Actually there are two machines that go by this name. In the UK the Cabinetto was the same as the Tournaphone in the US. However, in the US the Cabinetto is a different machine, but plays the same 25 note roll. One difference between the two machines is the spools that are used. The US Tournaphone uses a 2 3/8" wood rewind hub, while the US Cabinetto uses a 1 1/4" rubber covered rewind hub. Another difference between the machines is that the US Tournaphone and UK Cabinetto roll the paper in the opposite direction on the takeup spool while the US Cabinetto uses the conventional approach that is used on all of the other organettes and player pianos. The reverse wind used on the US Tournaphone and UK Cabinetto put much more wear on the paper since the paper is rolled in the opposite directions on feed and takeup spools.
There is a complete listing of the rolls that I have available for all of the Organettes on my WEB site:

Kevin McElhone has submitted an article on the Tournaphone to the MBSI, and I will soon send a listing of all of the songs titles that we are currently aware of for the machine. If any one has titles for original Tournaphone rolls, I would be glad to hear from you and add them to the list.
