Coin-Op Movie Watch Index
By Doug Mauldin
Dick Bueschel's movie list (MMD 97.03.11) includes "The Great Race" which features a four-manual theatre organ with roll-player attachment with which the bad guy (Jack Lemmon) plays Bach in a classic sight-gag. The only coin-op machines I saw were a piano with stained-glass front, presumably a nickelodeon, and what looked like a slot machine; these served only as part of the background scenery in the saloon.
Many is the time I've listened to the theme song "The Sweetheart Tree" and wondered if the piano part was played on a player piano. I know Henry Mancini was an outstanding pianist, but what the piano does in this number doesn't seem humanly possible.
