Picture Rolls
By Troy Taylor
The request for information about Frank Adams in today's Digest reminded me of a question that I have been meaning to ask.
Frank Adams composed a song, "The Dixie Lee Rag", (about the former and now deceased governor of Washington State) which was cut by QRS in the early 80s. We have 2 copies of it, but they are not the same. The earlier copy has probably a dozen or so line-drawings of scenes from around Washington printed on it alongside the words. The later one has no pictures.
Does anyone know if there are other rolls out there with pictures printed on them? I know about the QRS Christmas rolls, but those are just fancy paper, not actual pictures. I would be interested in finding other rolls with pictures, as they are very entertaining to watch as they scroll along.
The drawings on the "Dixie Lee Rag" are actually quite good. There are scenes of the Seattle waterfront, U of W campus, logging trucks, ferry-boats, Mt. St. Helens, etc. Thanks for any information.

[ The QRS "Schnitzelbank" has droll woodcuts. I hope to locate the [ source drawing, which I'm told was a wall-poster. -- Robbie |
