Artcraft Leabarjan on TV
By Robbie Rhodes
[ Editors note: [ I received notes today reminding me that I'd forgotten about this [ Leabarjan story from Maine. My apologizes to Douglas Henderson [ for the oversight, and thanks to those who reminded me ! [ -- Robbie
In Digest 970225 Larry Lobel inquired about the Leabarjan perforator, and asked if anyone knew about it's use. Our member Douglas Henderson wrote me with the news that the Gannett/CNS stations in Maine broadcast a story earlier today about how he makes music rolls using the Leabarjan perforator. Douglas wrote,
"Believe it or not, 2-1/2 hours got edited down to 2-1/2 minutes, and the message was still 'upbeat' and had something to say. The Leabarjans got close-ups of Joplin music being perforated (Mark Lutton's 2-piano/8-hand 31-page arr. of The Chrysanthemum), and then the master roll was featured in a close-up performance on the "AR" grand. The station also used the same Joplin roll for the background music -- selecting it over 4 other ARTCRAFT numbers (including one of our syncopated 'MOXIE music' numbers)."
He said that TV stations in both Bangor and Portland, Maine, carried the spot on the evening news, Monday March 3rd. Congratulations, Douglas, to you and your faithful Leabarjan #5 !
