Gordon Forcier was asking about the tune "'Tain't No Sin". I'm familiar
with two different 88-note roll versions of the tune. There is the Atlas
version (Atlas 3980) that was cut by Joe Fecher. My favorite, though, is
the first arrangement of it I ever heard which is the Paramount version
done by Rudy Erlebach. It has that classic Paramount "swingin' rock"
that makes the whole thing that much more infectious. Collectors
Classics (Don Rand's label) recut the Atlas version in the early 80's I
believe and Phil Wenker (Golden Age) recut the Paramount version in the
late 70's or early 80's.
It must have been cut on other labels as well but I haven't run across
them yet. It apparently wasn't cut by a lot of different labels though
since I've never seen it turn up on any other labels.
I understand that Wurlitzer used to "borrow" arrangements from rolls and
it could be that you are hearing the Atlas or Paramount version on the
Wurlitzer roll.
