Hi Robbie, The other day I saw an ad from Samick Piano Co. which,
based on the photos, appeared to be offering a paper roll-playing
digital piano, which in addition had Midi Disklavier-type capabilities.
If it's for real, this kind of instrument would offer a lot to us 88-note
roll collectors, since we'd be able to hear (and record) our favorite
rolls played back in various concert grand piano sounds. Also, it would
be possible to store rolls as Midi files for playback, or notationally
via printed music scores. It would certainly beat the idea of connecting
an old Pianola up to a Midi keyboard.
I'm curious if anyone on MMD has any information about these Samick
players. I for one would probably give serious consideration to a
digital paper-roll player, for all the reasons stated above. If it
has pedals to pump, that would probably cinch the deal for me.
All the best,
Frank Himpsl
