Hammer Suppliers
By Jon Page

By far and away, the most trouble proof hammers are Abel Hammers (German) available from Wally Brooks. Old Lyme, CT 800-326-2440

I have a hammer boring jig but he does such an excellent job of boring and tapering that I let him do it. He can even pre-hang a set. Great results! These hammers need very little voicing, sometimes none at all. (The 'Performance' series is brighter.) His boring is perfect. Installation goes quickly.

Renner Blue hammers are okay, but need a lot of voicing. The last set took two days to get right. Abels are a dream come true. I put some on a Mason & Hamlin AA - shear heaven. (I really like these hammers?)
