Seek Parts and Rolls for Berry-Wood
By Stephen Kent Goodman
It looks as though I may be acquiring a basket case Berry-Wood Auto Orchestra; judging from the photos, it looks like a Style A.O.W.
I understand that the late Charles Smallwood had some Berry-Wood parts that were dispersed in his estate sale. Does anyone know about (a) parts, particularly a coin mechanism, drum and percussion mechanisms (no stack needed) and (b) the 15-1/4" wide, 6-to-the-inch Berry Wood rewind rolls for A.O.W. This scale is not listed in Reblitz's "Treasures of Mechanical Music". If a number of original rolls cannot be located, I may have to convert it to play a more available roll type. Comments?
Are there any Berry-Wood owners out there who would be willing to sell close-up photos and/or sketches of the above mentioned mechanisms? I have the two ranks of pipes (which need to be glued back together -- water damage has separated the wood), the piano stack, and most of the case. This will be a major task of restoration!
Any suggestions (other than taking what I am getting to the nearest garbage dump) would be appreciated.
Cheers,
S. K. Goodman
