Foot-pumped Ampico
By Tom Steuer

Bing Gibbs asks about the Haines foot pumper Ampico. Assuming it is a full reproducing mechanism, the advantage is that you can add quite a bit of your own expression by foot pumping, and it can add a new level of enjoyment. Secondly, you can always add your own vacuum motor quite easily, so that it will be a fully automatic electric and/or foot pumper -- using the Ampico expression or adding your own creativity. The unusual factor makes it more interesting, I think, assuming it is a full Ampico, and that the piano is worth restoring.
