Introduction
By Jeff Davis

I've been perusing this digest for some time now and feel it is time to introduce myself. I'm a member of the Piano Tuners Guild (PTG) and specialize in restoring players. I have a data base of over 1100, ranging from ones I've only made estimates on, to major restorations.

I use PVC-e glue on nylon cloth from piano supply houses, as well as my dwindling supply of Bilon. The only problem I've ever had is on pneumatics which are spring-loaded, as the glue creeps with time.

On those occasional times that a mistake is made, I've found that Super- Glue remover also cuts PVC-e. Put it on, scrape off the glue. You must be fairly quick because the remover evaporates and you're back where you started from. This is the most benign way to remove PVC-e that I know of.

Lastly, on the last Schultz U restored, I tried nylon cloth from APSCO on a few of the pouch pneumatics. I found it more flexible than the pouch cloth from PPCo. that I was using.

[ Welcome to MMD, Jeff. We had several articles mentioning PVC-e
[ but I think this is the first I've heard there is a solvent for it.
[ Thanks for the tip, and write again sometime. -- Robbie
