Test Roll for Aeolian Orchestrelle
By Robbie Rhodes

Joe, Perhaps I can help you make test rolls for the Aeolian organs. (But first I must learn how to use the "Template" computer program, and then I will swamp Matthew Caulfield with output!)

Give me a description of what the test roll should do and a description of the tracker bar, etc. I presume that the purpose is to test the operation of all the pneumatic channels.

"Template" prints marks on computer paper (14.88-inch width) showing the edges of the music roll and where holes and slots should be cut. I believe that Matthew then lays previously trimmed music roll paper on top of the template and secures it with draftsman's tape. (It's like masking tape but gentler).

Then, with a chipboard backing underneath the two sheets of paper, he punches the start and the end of the slot with a hand punch. Later he completes cutting the slot with an X-acto knife. (David Wasson built a knife which holds double razor blades with the proper spacing.)
