Introduction
By Dan Blachaniec

Jody, Thanks for the welcome and a copy of the list operating procedure, guidelines, etc.

As to how I found your list? Well, a friend is trying to sell a Estey Welte-Mignon reproducing grand piano (see his summary appended below). Occasionally, I relay to him any information which I feel he may find interesting from PIPORG-L, a listserver dealing primarily with pipe organs. He asked if there were any similar lists for piano or reproducing pianos. I told him that I would look around, and through the wonders of Netscape and the Webcrawler search engine looking for "reproducing pianos" I eventually found your group.

Personally, I find your group an interesting and possibly beneficial list for use as a knowledge base since I am in the process of restoring a Tellers Chapel organ which I intend to install in my home. Due to the size of my home, expanding the organ is not really an option so the inclusion of MIDI stops has been part of my plan from the outset. Given the diverse list membership I should be able to get some very solid input.

Additionally, since the list is moderated I won't have to deal with the petty bickering between list members of opposing camps like on PIPORG-L. (Although, in fairness to the list-owners of PIPORG-L, I have to say that they have effectively curtailed this in recent weeks.)

Since the rules and regs didn't say anything about selling items, I am responding to the administrative account, and leaving it to your discretion as to whether I should re-post to the list moderator. Thanks again,

Dan Blachaniec

[ Editors note:
[
[ Welcome, Dan; I'm glad you like the structure inherent in this
[ moderated list. Last summer I "peeked in" at piporg-l and was a
[ bit put off myself.
[
[ I've separated from this Introduction your description of the piano
[ and placed in "The Mart" at the end of the Digest. The ad is well-
[ written, with all the info a buyer is likely to want, so I hope your
[ friend gets some results.
[
[ Tell us about your plans for the MIDI control of your home organ
[ sometime. Several folks here are involved with MIDI control of
[ fair organs, which share much the same architecture as a church
[ organ or theater organ, although with fewer pipes!
