Wurlitzer Organs in Cuba

Having several friends who have an intimate knowledge of Cuba through government sources, I offer this comment: Because Cuba is such a poor nation, especially after the revolution, most likely the instruments were scavenged as was the roll perforating equipment. Anything made in the USA or associated with its factories was considered inherently evil and subject to either destruction or heavy recycling.

If any instruments or perforating equipment could be found intact (highly doubtful), you would not be able to import it into the US, short of a special executive waiver. In the meantime, just the act of "investig- ating" the whereabouts of instruments and such in Cuba could land you a lengthy, if not lifetime stay in a Cuban prison. Happy hunting and let the MMD know if you turn up any instruments.

Cheers,

S. K. Goodman

[ I guess it wasn't apparent that Ken Vinen is a resident of Ontario,
[ Canada, and thus hasn't the travel restrictions that U.S. citizens
[ do. I hope that privately owned instruments weren't scrapped!
