Another coincidence -- at a Player Piano Group meeting last weekend we had a brainstorming session on the design of a possible roll-operated bagpipe. One objection was that the "drone" -- the double-note chord held throughout the piece -- would cause the roll to split lengthwise.
I suggested this could be solved by using Welte-style "lock-and-cancel" perforations! We also thought that Irish (elbow bellows) rather than Scottish (lungs) drive mode was preferable.

[ And I thought the _Tanzbar player accordion_ was unwieldy! As I [ imagine a roll controlling the chanter I can't help but think of the [ QRS Play-a-Sax! ... But why control the drones from the music roll if [ they never shut off? -- Robbie
