Player Piano Company
By Bill Maxim

Years ago, perhaps 15, I got computer-printed bills from Player Piano Co. Then came a time, apparently, when their stock of slow-moving merchandise was so financially unwieldy they ended up specialling off a lot of items, I guess including the computer.

When I made the suggestion back then that they look my number up in the computer, the irritated answer was that the machine was of no help because when they needed it, it was tied up with accounting or stock or who knows what; so they got rid of it. Obviously not a multitasking machine such as today's genre! I too have suffered the red-ink nagging about the customer number.
