Re: Printer for Word Rolls
By Mark Van Essen

Since I know very little about computers, etc., I have not followed this subject very closely, but I have a thought that I would like to share.

If I am correct, the big problems are that a printer is needed that will handle the width of the paper, allow the tab to pass through and allow continuous feed. Someone recently mentioned the idea of a printer for CAD (Compuer Aided Drawing).

I work at the University of North Dakota, (Brrrrrrrr!) and with the continuous advancements in technology, there are constant upgrades being made to equipment here at the U, so there are always lots of outdated or unwanted computer related equipment items in "surplus equipment." I would think that some other members would have a similar source. Judging from the "high-tech" and knowledgeable discussions I see from the group, they must have some access to fancy equipment. Perhaps if those of us who work at such an institution were to check around, we may find what the group is looking for.

If someone would let me know the specifics of what is needed from a printer, I would be happy to check our surplus inventory from time to time. I could also check with some of our computer experts to see if they have answers to your questions, which mean nothing to me. (I am a Pinsetter Technician, more commonly referred to as a "bowling mechanic" and computer talk is as foreign to me as the technical parts of pinsetters are foreign to computer people. I'm lucky to find my e-mail in the morning!) :-D

It also happens that my brother is a Computer Scientist at the University of Minnesota. I would be please to pass along your information to him for his thoughts. I don't know squat about the computing systems he uses, but I do know that he designs programs to evaluate data from medical research. Maybe he can help.

Please feel free to send me whatever you want on this subject. Maybe we'll get lucky and find some answers.

Mark Van Essen
