Re: Rusted Music Box Cylinder
By Hauke Marxsen

Hello Michel,

I had cylinder movements with dark spots around the pins. I bought a rotating brush with brass fibers for my electric drilling machine, then I brushed the cylinder with that tool.

The result was better than I thought -- No ruined pins ! The fibers of the brass brush were thin. Don't press too strong against the cylinder; not too high rotation speed.

But, in order to do that you will have to remove the cylinder! Then the cylinder should be lacquered to seal the surface.

Have a look to the MM Digest from the 20th of Dec. 1996 and see what Nancy Fratti has written: Subject: Re: Rusty Spots On The Cylinder.

Yours Hauke
