Re: Royalties for Mechanical Music
By Angelo Rulli
Matthew Caulfield and S. K. Goodman have submitted some valuable information regarding the royalties due to composers and publishers for mechanical music arrangements. This is a touchy issue and one that, for the most part, has been ignored among mechanical music enthusiasts in America.
In England there is a formal procedure by which anyone who is selling music for machines must pay a royalty to an organization specfically established for this purpose. The royalty fee is then passed on to those who purchase the rolls for their organs, pianos, etc.
I believe it would be of interest to members of the Musical Box Society International (and others) if the information thus far posted in the Mechanical Music Digest could be summarized into a brief and cogent article so that it could be published for posterity. If anyone is interested in this project, please contact me at my email address below. Thanks.
