Re: Rolls by Gitta Gradova
By Robbie Rhodes
Dear Mr. Cottle: Your request for information will appear in the Mechanical Music Digest for 2 Jan 1997, and the readers have been asked to respond to you directly.
There is no evidence in the Ampico and Welte books that artist Gitta Gradova recorded for the other piano roll companies. Rolls A-49 and 68650 were re-cut by Ray Siou, therefore originals still exist somewhere of those rolls, at least. A huge collection of Duo-Art rolls is at International Piano Archives at Maryland (IPAM) -- write to
IPAM, Music Library, Univ. of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742 attn: Mr. Don Manildi
If you are unable to obtain original rolls, perhaps the owners would lend the originals for transcription to computer file, from which a duplicate roll can be perforated, or the data can be converted to a Midi file for performance on a modern Midi instrument. I can provide more information about these processes if you wish.
Best regards, Robbie Rhodes
[ I also received a warm "Thanks" from Mr. Cottle. I sure hope [ he's successful; I'd like to hear the music! -- Robbie |
