Now that brings back memories! Back in the days of PDP-8 computers and Teletype machines there used to be a special perforated repair tape for when you accidentally ripped (or trod on) your paper program tapes. It certainly was "a few years ago" -- like 30!
I think I've still got some of it somewhere (along with an ASR-33, and a lifetime supply of paper tape). I suspect it is too thick for roll repairs, but I'll check it out and see. Who knows, there might even be modern suppliers of this sort of material, if paper tape is still alive in some remote corner of industry.
