Paper Cutting Tool
By Douglas K. Rhodes

Greetings! Terry Smythe mentioned the problem of the roll repair board getting torn-up by the X-Acto blade. I use a dress-maker's circular blade for cutting felt, and have seen thick space-age plastic sheets for sale in various sizes at fabric stores for use with this kind of cutter. Lay the fabric (or paper) on the plastic sheet and do your cutting. Apparently the sheet (touted as being self-repairing) will withstand months of use. They are not cheap, and I have not personally used one, but it might be worth checking out. By the way, the circular blade for felt-cutting was one of the best $10 investments I ever made.
