Re: Themodist/Solodant Questions
By Colin Hinz

Hi. It's me again. Please ignore my previous plea for information on how to re-tube the Solodant mechanism, as I've now managed to disassemble most of the action aside from the bellows/reservoirs/ expression boxes. What I've examined so for (while carefully storing the removed parts in dozens of verbosely labelled zip-loc bags) has cleared up my earlier uncertainties. Oh, and the suspected missing tee connector turned up, but not where I expected it to. So it goes!

Now here's a puzzler for the historian types. I've read in various places (sorry, cannot provide exact references right now) that the various Themodist/Solodant expression systems are "almost" the same. "ALMOST"? Can anybody out there quantify this 'almost', or should one assume that this curious use of language was merely a way of the author playing it safe (not knowing for sure if the systems were the same).

My main interest in asking this is roll compatibility. I'd like to be certain that if I buy themed rolls that they'll behave themselves on my piano, once the player's finally up and running.

Speaking of which, anybody know of a source of used or new themed rolls? My interests in music (so far as piano music goes) are chiefly ragtime, blues, stride and their ilk, and also classical works from early-mid 19th century onwards (admittedly classical music sounds better on a reproducer, but that's a future project!).

Inevitably, I've more rebuilding questions, but they can wait until later. I'm still waiting for that darned parcel to arrive from PPCo.! (Okay, it's only been 5 days so far...!)
