Re: Wood Pipe Specifications
By Matthew Caulfield

I waited a day to reply to the query about a source for measurements needed to make wood pipes, thinking that someone else would supply better information than this. But ...

You might look at Doyle Lane's "Wurlitzer Band Organ Pipe Scales", published by him in 1981. He probably still has copies for sale: Doyle Lane, Rt. 1, Box 711, Middletown Springs, VT 05757.

Caveats: These pipes are for band organs, which means they are blown at somewhat higher pressure than pipes for orchestrions or theater organs. The scales are not chromatic (although I am sure you can extrapolate (interpolate?) the dimensions for missing notes). In many cases the overall pipe lengths are not given, but all other critical dimensions (depth, width, wall thickness, cut up, lip length, etc.) are included. Includes violin, open and stopped flutes, piccolos, open and stopped bass, etc., as well as some specifications for reed pipes.
