Christmas CD from Utrecht
By Bjorn Isebaert
Dear Mech. Music Lovers,
I don't have the time now to introduce myself (since I am a student from Belgium and have a lesson in half an hour), but I promise to do this one of these days.
Sometimes I read questions about CD's of Mechanical Music. I have some (but I have more LP's and cassettes), and I must say that in Europe there is quite a greater production of these items than in, e.g., America and Australia. But with that, I don't mean that the quality of the recording is good (mostly, it is terrible).
Recently, the National-Museum, 'Van Speelklok tot Pierement' of Utrecht (the Netherlands), brought out a Christmas CD, featuring some very popular Christmas songs on some fine instruments, such as the Hooghuys dance organ (which plays the Ave Maria of Bach/Gounod), a Hupfeld Phonoliszt Violina and a Steinway Grand reproducing piano. The CD is available at the museum.
The address is: Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement, Buurkerk 12, NL 3511 KC Utrecht, The Netherlands. The price is about 25 'Nederlandse gulden' (shipping and taxes not included). Perhaps some of you heard of this CD already, but I thought that it was worth being mentioned.
By the way, where is Jody (by which I don't mean that the 'composer' of this mailing does not do his job very well ...)
Greetings, Bjorn bjorn.isebaert@rug.ac.be
P.S.: sorry for my English !
[ Editor's note: [ [ Bjorn, your English is just fine! Because you are concerned I made [ a few small corrections which you can see. Perhaps you can write to [ us during the holidays. Are you at the university at Ghent? What [ specialty are you studying? [ [ Jody (Mr.) is a computer systems programmer; he asked me to be the [ editor this month so that he could work extra time at the "paying [ jobs." (The Digest is entirely donated time and services.) Jody [ lives in Julian, Calif., a village midway between the Salton Sea [ and San Diego. I am an electronic designer, and I live in Etiwanda, [ a village nearby Ontario airport. [ [ Robbie Rhodes |
