Dealers and The Mart
By Rick Cooley
The range of topics in the MMD is absolutely fantastic! However, I would like to see, a Wanted/Buy/Sell/Trade section, particularly the "Wanted" section, maybe at the end of the Digest. I have a number of junker (but originally magnificent) orchestrions being restored. When you buy such basket cases you always need parts, and that is my situation now. Any comments from others about the value and need for a "Wanted/Buy/Sell/Trade" section?
And now the "age old question": should dealers be allowed to participate? First we need to define "dealer". Although we are "official" dealers, I contend that anyone who buys/sells/trades for a collection or inventory is a "dealer". (How about "wheeler dealer?!") In any case, what are your thoughts on a MART section at the end of each Digest.
Thanks for listening! Rick and Betty Cooley RCCXX@AOL.COM
[ Editor's note: [ [ The Mechanical Music Digest, like the big newspapers, assumes no [ responsibility for the accuracy of the information published, nor for [ the integrity of the advertisers. If MMD were concered with old [ cars, for example, there surely would be lots of letters about [ buying/selling/trading of parts and complete cars. The only [ distinction between "dealers" and "official dealers" is if they [ report and pay the taxes on the transaction. That's not our concern, [ fortunately! [ [ The terms "wheeler dealer" and "horse trader" probably arise from the [ traditional activities of Gypsies around the world, and the customers [ of such traders should heed the old axiom: "Let the buyer beware!" [ [ Jody has written before that "Want Ads" and "For Sale" announcements, [ etc., are welcome in MMD, and will usually be placed at the end of [ the Digest, which serves as "The Mart" for now. Market prices are of [ interest to all, and we especially appreciate learning the price [ which a buyer actually paid (as does the tax collector!). [ [ Robbie Rhodes
