For the past 30+ years, I've been using a deep fryer for a glue pot quite successfully. I usually pick them up at garage sales for $5. The first one I bought still had the French Fry wire basket in it, which I still use. Over the years, I've gone through about 4 of them.
I put glue crystals in an old jam can with water, heat it up in the wire basket in the deep fryer set at just a little above lowest possible temperature. Takes about 15 minutes to mix up a fresh batch for job at hand. I keep a another container of water nearby to occasionally top up the deep fryer, and occasionally thin out the glue as it thickens.
When finished, remove the wire basket and can of glue, set aside to cool, rinse 1/2" paint brush in the hot water, empty out the deep fryer, and throw away the jam can.
Lo-cost alternative, works just fine.
Regards,
Terry
